A natural-edge rim, hand-carved feet, and graceful lines distinguish this beautiful bowl made of ambrosia maple (wood from eastern red and silver maples with streaks of color created by an ambrosia beetle infestation). The bowl’s lustrous finish is accomplished with oil and a lacquer top coat.
Dean Hutchins works out of his shop in Advance, NC, creating original woodturned works of art with an emphasis on bowls, closed forms, vases, platters, and other turned forms. Having joined Dean on this wonderful adventure, his wife Kim also enjoys exploring several surface enhancement techniques. They are both members of several woodturning clubs including Piedmont Triad Woodturners, Southern Piedmont Woodturners, Carolina Mountain Woodturners, and the American Association of Woodturners (AAW).
