Blending kinetics and aesthetics, this piece turns a "whirligig" design into a whimsically elegant wind sculpture. Interactive and colorful sculture adds a vibrant spatial component. For use indoors or out, this sculpture is made with stainless-steel sealed ball-bearings, so no oiling is required. All surfaces are concave.
When you look at Andrew Carson's wind sculptures, you see bits of his past (his childhood fascination with the 100 mph Chinooks and the unusual functional windmills in Boulder, CO), along with the influence of Jules Verne and Dr. Seuss. Andrews's pieces combine elegant weathervane design with the whimsical "whirligigs" he created as a boy. There are no "found" parts in Carson's work. He figures the mechanics, perfects the rotations, and engineers every piece using a combination of industrial process and hand work.
